Nutella French Toast

Okay…so this is more of a dessert than it is a breakfast. But honestly, it’s worth the insane number of calories.

NO REGRETS PEOPLE. NO REGRETS.

Ingredients:

1 loaf brioche bread (or bread of choice, Challah would work well too!)
1/4 cup milk
2 eggs
1/2 – 1 vanilla bean
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Powdered Sugar

Berry Sauce:
2 Cups frozen or fresh berries (raspberries, blueberries, blackberries)
2 tablespoons sugar
Scant 1/4 cup water

Step 1: In a small saucepan, combine berries, sugar, and water over medium-high heat. Continue to stir and once the sauce comes to a boil, reduce to the heat to medium-low. Continue to stir until you have your desired consistency. Then remove from heat and set aside.

Step 2: In a tray (a baking tray, or shallow Tupperware) combine the milk, eggs, vanilla bean, and cinnamon. Whisk together all ingredients.

Step 3: Slice bread into about 1 inch slices. Spread Nutella on one slice and place another slice on top. You’ve got yourself a Nutella sandwich! Resist the urge to eat it up at that moment and place the sandwich into the milk and egg mix. Let it sit on one side for about a minute and then flip over onto the other side and let it sit for another minute.

Step 4: Over medium-high heat, melt butter into a large nonstick pan. Once the pan is hot and butter is melted lay down the french toast. Be sure that you don’t have the pan on high heat. If you do, you’ll risk burning the french toast. Using a utensil, carefully check the french toast. Once it’s nice and golden brown, flip it over onto the other side.

Step 5: When both sides of the french toast are golden and ready to go, place into a serving plate, slice it in half, pour on the berry syrup (or syrup of your choice) and sprinkle powdered sugar on top.

Sahtain!
